Aoyang Revolutionary Memorial Pavilion
The Aoyang Revolutionary Memorial Pavilion is a classic site for red tourism.
In the winter of 1926, farmers in Aoyang Village (now Gaoxiang Village) actively engaged in revolutionary activities and established a farmers' association. In the autumn of 1927, a village Party branch was set up with Li Zhensheng as the secretary, recruiting over 20 Party members successively. In the spring of 1928, the CPC Yongjia County Committee moved to Aoyang Village. Leaders of the county committee such as Zheng Xin, Wang Pingzhou, Wang Jinmu, and Li Zhensheng used this place as a base to carry out revolutionary activities, organize a peasant Red Guards unit, and launch armed uprisings. On the night of April 30, 1930, under the command of Chen Wenjie, over 300 Red Guards staged the “May 1st” major uprising, destroyed the Xinqiao Police Station, seized a batch of weapons and ammunition, and burned the land deeds of landlords. This action caused extreme panic among the Kuomintang authorities, who dispatched provincial security forces to suppress Communist Party members and revolutionary masses, severely damaging the Party organization in Aoyang Village. Between 1927 and 1932, several Party members from the village, including Li Zhensheng, Li Rifang, Li Jinhé, Li Zhenbin, Zhou Xiucong, and Li Yanbin, sacrificed their lives. Later, some surviving Party members and Red Guards continued the revolutionary struggle, with some joining the 13th Red Army and fighting across southern Zhejiang.
The Aoyang Revolutionary Memorial Pavilion is located in Gaoxiang Village, Xinqiao Subdistrict, Ouhai District. In December 1991, the Ouhai District Committee and government of Wenzhou City built the pavilion and erected a monument in honor of the martyrs of Aoyang Village. The memorial pavilion features a two-story hexagonal structure, with the upper level serving as an exhibition room and the lower level as a resting pavilion. A five-pointed star on the roof draws attention. In 2009, villagers of Gaoxiang pooled funds to renovate the pavilion and constructed a cultural wall nearby, recreating scenes from the revolutionary struggle.
The Aoyang Revolutionary Memorial Pavilion is a patriotic education base in Ouhai District.
