On September 13, 2011, the expansion project of National Highway 329 in Zhoushan – the Zhujiajian Bridge (Guanyin Bridge) – was officially opened to traffic.

The expansion project of National Highway 329 in Zhoushan Zhujiajian was approved by the Provincial Development and Reform Commission and is a key provincial infrastructure project. Construction began on December 28, 2008, with a total investment of 453 million yuan.

The starting point of the project is near Yingjiawan Reservoir on the Pingdong Line of National Highway 329. The route follows the existing National Highway 329 (Xingpu Avenue), crosses the Donggang Development Zone via the Donggang Elevated Road, and connects to the original Zhujiajian Bridge. The expansion project is located north of the original bridge alignment, maintaining a clearance of 3 to 10 meters from the old bridge structure. It ends at the original Zhujiajian Bridge toll station. The total length of the route is 4.3 kilometers, with the bridge itself stretching 3,544.74 meters. This includes the 808-meter-long Donggang Elevated Road and the 2,736.74-meter-long widened section of the Zhujiajian Bridge. The design standard is Class I highway, with a design speed of 80 km/h. The roadbed is of integral type, generally 24.5 meters wide; the Donggang Elevated Road is 23 meters wide, and the new bridge is 11.75 meters wide. The main navigation span of the expanded bridge retains the same navigation standards as the original bridge, rated for 1,000-ton sea vessels.
