Charen Valley Ecotourism Area (East Sea Grand Canyon)

Charen Valley is located above Xiamen Reservoir in Shuangqiao Town, named for the thousands of acres of tea terraces planted on the hillside. The area boasts six wonders: lofty mountains, deep valleys, long streams, cascading waterfalls, secluded forests, and towering rocks. It also offers six scenic delights: spring birds chirping in the ravine, summer shade over the sandy beach woods, autumn maples tinged with frost, winter plum blossoms dotting the snow, resting by the stream among stones, and wandering carefree with the clouds.

The Charen Valley Ecotourism Area is home to species such as graylag geese, egrets, river deer, and sika deer. The streams are teeming with stone crabs, small fish, and shrimp, and it serves as a paradise for the endangered Chinese giant salamander to live and breed. Venturing into the deep valley, you’ll find towering peaks, steep cliffs, and a cool climate that together form a beautiful pristine ecological zone.

Not only is Charen Valley scenically beautiful, but its tea is equally enchanting, along with its authentic farmhouse cuisine. The area raises free-range goats and chickens, has wild river fish in its ponds, grows fresh vegetables in its fields, and cultivates fruits such as pomelos, oranges, peaches, pears, and bayberries on the hillsides.
