The Dinghai Primary School History Room serves as a patriotic education base.

The predecessor of Dinghai Primary School in Zhoushan City was Dinghai County Girls' Primary School, established in September 1912. It began admitting boys in 1921. With the changes of history, the school name was changed several times starting from 1930. In the 34th year of the Republic of China (1945), it merged with the "Private Shen Yi Primary School," founded in 1902 by Mr. Zhu Baosan in the 28th year of the Guangxu reign (1902) during the Qing Dynasty, and later also incorporated some classes from Zhoushan Primary School, Chaoyang Primary School, and Shengli Primary School on Chengdong Street. In 1998, it was officially named "Dinghai Primary School of Zhoushan City," and the school name was inscribed by Comrade –, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

Dinghai Primary School is a school with a glorious revolutionary tradition. During the Great Revolution period and the early days of the War of Resistance against Japan, it served as an important base for leading the people of the county in carrying out workers’ and peasants’ movements and anti-Japanese salvation activities. Over its 90 years of establishment, Dinghai Primary School has had tens of thousands of students enrolled and graduated, and the school has nurtured a large number of talents for the country’s revolution and construction, such as Jin Weiyin, Yang Jingjuan, Yue Yacheng, Dong Qianli, Ye Qinghe…

To inspire teachers and students to unite, inherit the school’s glorious traditions, and promote its fine ethos, the History Room was specially established as a lasting tribute. The History Room is located on the first floor of the Sports and Arts Hall of Dinghai Primary School, covering an area of 98 square meters, and is a patriotic education base in Zhoushan City. The exhibition hall is mainly divided into five sections: Let History Bear Witness, Cradle of Revolution, A Garden of Blooming Talents, Introduction to Mr. Zhu Baosan, and Introduction to the Life and Deeds of Principal Shen Yi. “Let History Bear Witness” mainly introduces the school’s development over more than 90 years. “Cradle of Revolution” highlights the school’s proud revolutionary tradition. “A Garden of Blooming Talents” showcases the educational achievements of Dinghai Primary School over the past 90 years. “Introduction to Mr. Zhu Baosan” primarily provides a biography of Mr. Zhu Baosan and an introduction to the Zhu Baosan Education Foundation. “Introduction to the Life and Deeds of Principal Shen Yi” mainly outlines the deeds of Principal Shen Yi, along with the proposal, charter, and award evaluation methods of the Shen Yi Foundation.

The exhibition hall presents the school’s over 90-year development and glorious revolutionary tradition through illustrated panels. In 1987, Comrade –, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and then Director of the State Commission for Economic Restructuring, visited the History Room and inscribed the words “Nurture Talent to Revitalize the Nation.” Since its establishment and opening, the Dinghai Primary School History Room has attracted a continuous stream of visitors for study and learning, often including foreign friends, teachers and students from urban primary and secondary schools, and government agencies. Every year, the first lesson for new teachers and students at the school is to visit the History Room, to reflect on the hard-fought historical achievements of their predecessors and to experience the remarkable accomplishments of the school.
