Gongyu Scenic Area

Gongyu Scenic Area is situated within Tianshi Town, Xianju County, around 38 kilometers to the southwest of Xianju County’s urban center. The core area of Gongyu covers roughly 31 square kilometers, characterized by a high density of diverse and high-quality landforms. The rocky cliffs and peaks are ever-changing and famed for their towering presence. The terrain is formed in multi-tiered, stepped structures, with the central elevation of Gongyu at 1150 meters. The entire Gongyu rock formation stands majestically, exuding a grand and imposing aura, with its stone forests and cliff faces each displaying unique charm.

On maps, Gongyu Mountain is also referred to as Gongmeng Village. Gongmeng Village is divided into two parts: Upper Ping Village and Lower Ping Village. Both are small villages situated on high mountains at an altitude of 600 meters. Surrounded by extraordinary peaks on all sides, the highest peak of Gongyu Mountain reaches 1150 meters. The entire Gongyu village is enclosed by the mountain peaks, forming a small basin. Climbing up to Gongyuyan Back on the southern side of Gongyu Village offers a panoramic view of the stunning scenery of Gongyu Mountain.

Just like stumbling upon the Peach Blossom Spring in Wuling, Xianju’s Gongyu Village was first discovered by a few photography enthusiasts from Taizhou. The terrain here is completely different from the rest of the Jiangnan region—the mountains rise vertically, as if carved by knives and axes, giving the illusion of being in the karst mountain ranges surrounding Yangshuo in Guilin. Nestled on a high mountain at 600 meters above sea level, the village is encircled by extraordinary peaks, with the mountaintops standing around 1000 meters high. The village is embraced by these peaks into a small basin, covering an area of about 31 square kilometers. Within the valley, there are two small settlements: Upper Ping and Lower Ping.

The path leading into the village is steep and rugged, lined with terraced fields and miles of peach blossom forests. As mist begins to rise from the valley, the views stretch endlessly with dramatically shaped cliffs and peaks. After walking a little further, suddenly a vast openness appears. The moment you step in, it feels like stepping into the real-life version of the Peach Blossom Spring. The ancestors found this serene haven amidst the layered mountains and established their homes here. Each village has only a small population.

Climbing up to Gongyubei on the southern side of the village reveals breathtaking views. Gongyu is ranked alongside Xianju’s Shenxianju and Jinxingyan as one of the three major scenic areas of Xianju. Thin mist rises like a veil from the valley, transforming the area into a mystical fairyland. The towering peaks resemble a Shangri-La paradise. Being here, your heart will already feel as if it's soaring to the mountaintops. This is the most pristine rural scenery in Xianju. The months of May, when rice is transplanted, and October, during the harvest season, are the most beautiful times in Yangfengshan. Over 2,000 acres of terraced fields on the high mountain are spectacularly picturesque, appearing like a dreamland when shrouded in clouds.

Due to the inconvenient transportation, this heavenly-beautiful Jiangnan-style village has remained low-key. It is surrounded by extraordinary peaks, and the village is bordered by orderly terraced fields that layer upwards, creating a delightful composition. For years, only seasoned backpackers ventured here to explore the remarkable peaks and landscapes, capturing sunrises and star trails while enjoying the tranquility and peace of the village. Here, smoke curls from chimneys, and golden, ripe rice hangs heavy in the layered terraces. There are magnificent sea-of-clouds spectacles, with mist enshrouding the endless mountains. There are vivid ink-painting-like mountain scenes, ancient trees in deep mountains, and hidden villages atop highlands—like utopian dreams tucked away…

Transportation:

Take the Hang-Jin-Qu Expressway to transfer to the Zhu-Yong Expressway, exit at Gongyuyan, then follow the provincial road to reach Gongyu Village.

Tianshi Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Xianju County. Established as Tianshi Township in 1950, changed to a management district in 1958, became a commune in 1961, reverted to township status in 1984, upgraded to a town in 1990, and merged with Lixiang Township in 1992. Located in the central part of the county, on the southern bank of Yong'an Stream, it is 13.4 kilometers from the county seat. Covering an area of 92.8 square kilometers, it has a population of 26,000. The Lin (Hai) Shi (Zhu) Highway runs through the town.
