Xiadong East Bridge

Xiadong East Bridge is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Zhejiang Province.

Xiadong East Bridge is located in Xiage Town, Xianju County, dating back to the Ming Dynasty.

As a single-arch stone bridge situated in the northeast of Xiage Town, it is referred to as the foremost ancient bridge of Xianju. This bridge is the earliest built and best preserved ancient stone arch bridge documented in the county’s history.

The East Bridge stretches from east to west, measuring 26.55 meters in total length and 3.7 meters in width, and was constructed using long stone slabs arranged in both vertical and horizontal sections. The East Bridge is also known as the Crescent Moon Bridge because its reflection on the water resembles a bright moon gently swaying on the blue waves. The arch bridge was built in the 16th year of the Wanli reign during the Ming Dynasty (1588 AD), making it over 400 years old. It is said to have been funded by Ying Dayou, a retired Minister of War from the Ming imperial court, who returned to his hometown.

On January 13, 2017, the People's Government of Zhejiang Province listed it as part of the seventh group of Provincial Cultural Heritage Protection Units in Zhejiang.
