Miaoguo Temple is located at the foot of Songtai Mountain on Renmin Road in downtown Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, and is a renowned ancient temple in the Eastern Ou region. The name "Miaoguo," meaning "wonderful fruit" or "auspicious outcome," originates from Sanskrit scriptures, signifying the attainment of extraordinary spiritual accomplishments through the unity of body, speech, and mind. The temple is surrounded by lush green pine forests and enjoys a serene environment. It faces a main thoroughfare, situated within the city yet away from the hustle and bustle. Nearby, Jingshan Mountain offers views of misty clouds that bring an aura of auspiciousness. Embracing the beauty of the landscape and gathering the essence of spiritual energy, Miaoguo Temple is a renowned ancient temple in the Eastern Ou region. It was first built during the Shenglong era (705 AD) of the Tang Dynasty by the eminent master Sujue and flourished in the Song Dynasty. The eminent monk Jizhong once resided here as abbot, revitalizing the temple’s traditions and making it a famous pilgrimage site along the southeastern coast. It was later demolished during road construction, though cultural relics, the relics of the master, a Song Dynasty gilt bronze Buddha statue, and a small stone stele documenting the master’s life are now housed in the East China Cultural Relics Museum.
