Baima Temple Battle Memorial Pavilion

The Baima Temple Battle Memorial Pavilion is a cultural tourism attraction and a classic red tourism site.

On May 25, 1930, some officers and soldiers of the First Regiment of the 13th Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army stationed at Baima Temple were suddenly surrounded by Nationalist forces. Under the command of Political Director Chen Wenjie, the Red Army soldiers fought back fiercely, allowing the main force to break through the encirclement. However, 16 Red Army soldiers who were providing cover eventually ran out of ammunition and were either killed in battle or captured. The captured soldiers remained steadfast and unyielding in the face of the brutality of the reactionary Nationalist forces and were all executed. Two of the soldiers were forced down on the threshold of Baima Temple and beheaded. Among the 16 martyrs who sacrificed their lives, were Zhang Yongfa and Dong Shiyun from what is now Ouhai District, as well as Zheng Yanqing, Zhang Yulai, Lin Yongpei, Lu Zuohong, and Shi Qingkang from Rui’an City.

The Baima Temple Battle Memorial Pavilion is located on the western side of Baima Temple at the northern foot of Baiyun Mountain in Louqiao Town, Ouhai District. It was built in December 1992 and covers an area of approximately 16 square meters. The memorial pavilion is a hexagonal stone structure over 5 meters high, featuring a stone table and stone drum inside. The couplet on the pavilion’s pillars reads: “Shaking mountains and earth, blood was shed at Baima Temple that year; erecting a monument and pavilion, flowers bloom today on Zijin Terrace.” Behind the memorial pavilion stands a monument dedicated to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the Baima Temple Battle of the 13th Red Army.

The Baima Temple Battle Memorial Pavilion is a patriotic education base in Ouhai District.
