Wang Jinmei (1895–1930), also known as Huang Jingming, was a native of Huangyu Village, Wushan District, Yongjia County (now part of Ouhai District). He was one of the early leaders of the peasant movement of the Chinese Communist Party in southern Zhejiang. Before joining the revolutionary cause, he worked as a peddler (known as mai xiao, or “goods hawker”). In the winter of 1926, he joined the Chinese Communist Party. Thereafter, he went deep into areas such as Shangxiahe Township in Yongjia, mobilized the masses, organized groups including the “Hired Peasants’ Association,” “Poor Peasants’ Group,” and “Rice Planters’ Society,” established peasant associations, and promoted and implemented a 25% rent reduction policy. In August 1928, after the reorganization of the Yongjia County Committee of the CCP, he was appointed head of the Organization Department. In November, he was elected as a member of the Southern Zhejiang Special Committee of the CCP. In February 1929, he was added as a standing committee member of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the CCP. In April of the same year, when the Yongjia Central County Committee of the CCP was established, he was appointed its secretary. In February 1930, he attended the Second Expanded Meeting of the Yongjia Central County Committee, convened by central inspector Jin Guanzhen in Zhao Pingdi, Rui’an. After the meeting, he and Chen Wenjie went deep into the countryside, actively organizing peasant militias and developing armed forces to support activities of the Red Army in southern Zhejiang. In May of the same year, after the establishment of the 13th Red Army, the militia he led was incorporated into the 13th Red Army. In June, the Yongjia Central County Committee of the CCP was abolished and the Yongjia County Committee was restored, with him continuing to serve as secretary. On July 8, during a meeting of the Yongjia County Committee held in Cihu Beicun, Wushan, he was unfortunately arrested and executed heroically that night at the foot of Zifu Mountain in Wenzhou. Throughout his life, Wang Jinmei made outstanding contributions to the development of the CCP in southern Zhejiang, the formation of the 13th Red Army, the establishment of the Southern Zhejiang Revolutionary Committee, and the creation of the Revolutionary Committees of Yongjia and Rui’an counties.
