Former Site of the Office of the CPC Zhejiang South Special Committee
The Former Site of the Office of the CPC Zhejiang South Special Committee is a classic red tourism destination.
In June 1930, the CPC Zhejiang South Special Committee was established, with Wang Guozhen serving as its secretary. The committee’s office was located at Qingning An in Yutan Village. Directly under the leadership of the Party Central Committee, the CPC Zhejiang South Special Committee governed two central county committees (Yongkang and Taizhou), as well as county committees in Yongjia, Ruian, Pingyang, and the Lishui District Committee. In late August of the same year, according to directives from the Party Central Committee, the CPC Zhejiang South Special Committee was temporarily renamed the Zhejiang South General Action Committee; in September, the CPC Zhejiang South Special Committee structure was restored. On September 14, the committee’s office was discovered by the enemy, resulting in the arrest and martyrdom of committee member Jin Jiansan and key staff member Zhang Ziyu. On November 5, an expanded meeting of the CPC Zhejiang South Special Committee was held, during which Cao Zhen, former organizational committee member, was elected acting secretary. In late November, Cao Zhen was arrested, leading to another disruption of the committee. In early December, the Jiangsu-Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the CPC dispatched Li Chaoshi to inspect the Zhejiang South region and decided to dissolve the CPC Zhejiang South Special Committee and establish the Wenzhou Central County Committee, with Wang Guozhen as secretary.
Qingning An (now renamed Qingyun Temple), the former site of the CPC Zhejiang South Special Committee office, is located on the northern foothills of Shuanglian Mountain east of Zili Village, Xianyan Town, Ouhai District, Wenzhou City, not far from Lingyou Palace. Originally built during the reign of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, the temple originally had a two-courtyard main hall, wing rooms, over eighty acres of farmland, and a vegetable garden. In 1958, the rear hall of the temple was destroyed in a fire and reduced to ruins. It was rebuilt and completed in 2004, and renamed Qingyun Temple. On the right side of the Mahavira Hall inside the temple is engraved the “Reconstruction Inscription of Qingyun Temple, the Former Site of the CPC Zhejiang South Special Committee Office.”
