Wenzhou Baiyun Temple

Wenzhou Baiyun Temple is located in Nanbaxiang Subdistrict, Ouhai District, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province. Originally built in the 14th year of the Zhenguan era of the Tang Dynasty (640), it was initially named "Xuanqing Temple." It was renovated during the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty, having endured many trials over the centuries.

In 1992, it was restored and approved by the local government’s religious affairs department as an open site. It was then renamed "Baiyun Temple," with three additional halls constructed and various statues of Taoist deities added. The "Daluo Treasure Hall" enshrines the Supreme Old Lord Laozi and serves as a place for Taoist followers to worship, pray, and make wishes. The Lingxiao Hall houses the Jade Emperor of Heaven and the God of Literature, Wenchang Dijun. The Lingguan Hall is dedicated to the Taoist guardian deity Wang Lingguan and the Four Great Marshals. Further back lies the Doumu Hall among other structures. The entire Baiyun Temple complex features solemn and serene hall arrangements, standardized Taoist ritual procedures, and ethereal Taoist music, all contributing to an atmosphere of Taoist emptiness and tranquility. Wenzhou Baiyun Temple and the Baxiang Pagoda, which dates back to the Northern Song Dynasty, complement each other beautifully, forming a harmonious whole.

Wenzhou Baiyun Temple currently covers an area of about 10,000 square meters, with a built-up area of over 6,000 square meters. It consists of five halls in total, boasts a grand scale, neat layout, exquisite architecture, and classic antique charm. It is a cultural heritage conservation unit of Ouhai District and one of the largest Quanzhen Taoist temples in Wenzhou.
