Former Residence of Qi Jun

The former residence of Qi Jun is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Zhejiang Province.

The former residence of Qi Jun is located in Quxi Subdistrict, Ouhai District, Wenzhou City, dating back to the Republican era.

Located within Sanxi Middle School in Quxi Town, Ouhai District, the residence is a courtyard-style structure consisting of the main house, a pavilion, a pond, and corridors on both sides.

The central bay of the main house features five doors along the front eaves, while the side bays have lattice windows. Five-panel screen doors are set between the rear golden columns of the central bay, with a staircase to the second floor located on the east side behind the doors.

The south side of the second floor has a maidens’ balcony, with Western-style design on the east, west, and north sides. The corridor pillars are plain brick columns, with continuous arches between them. The roof is covered with small blue tiles. The wing corridors consist of four single-story buildings with flush gable roofs. The east-side wing corridor has a single-eave roof facing the courtyard, while the west-side wing corridor features a double-eave roof with a partition wall in the middle.

Outside the gable wall on the west side of the main house stands an octagonal pavilion with a pyramidal roof. The eastern beam frame of the pavilion is supported by the main house, eliminating the need for eave pillars, while the other six sides are upheld by six wooden columns. The column tops extend outward with hanging columns supporting the corner beams. An entrance is located on the east side, and a square-shaped pond with square stone slabs lining its walls is situated next to the pavilion.

On January 13, 2017, the People's Government of Zhejiang Province designated it as part of the seventh batch of Provincial Cultural Heritage Protection Units in Zhejiang.

Qi Jun (1916–2006) was born on July 24, 1916, in Quxi Township, Ouhai, Wenzhou. Her original name was Pan Xizhen, with the nickname Chunying. She was a renowned female writer from Taiwan in the modern and contemporary era. Qi Jun began her literary career writing essays, and her name has always been associated with Taiwanese prose. She authored over 30 works including essay collections, fiction anthologies, and children’s literature.
