Miyin Temple is located at the foot of Toutuo Mountain in Nanbaixiang Subdistrict, Ouhai District. Commonly known as Toutuo Temple, it is also called Miaozhi Temple. It is said that the eminent Tang Dynasty monk Xuanjue (665–713) once resided here. The temple was officially established during the Qiánhēi era (948–950) of the Later Han of the Five Dynasties. In the late Ming Dynasty, Lin Zengzhi (1593–1667), Minister of Rites from Ruian, shaved his head and became a monk here, and restored the Buddhist temple. It was completed in the eighth year of the Shunzhi era (1651). The temple complex is grand and majestic, “covering an area of over ten acres,” with “thousands of pillars and foundations, vermilion halls and soaring towers,” “rivalling other major monasteries such as those of Wu and Yue, Tiantong, and Xuedou.”

Outside the mountain gate of Miyin Temple is a lotus pond, and upon entering is the Hall of Heavenly Kings. The front hall is the Ancestral Hall, with the Xinyin Tower to its right. The middle hall is the Mahavira Hall, with meditation rooms and guest quarters of various sizes to the east and west, followed by the Dharma Hall, Abbot’s Quarters, Longevity Hall, and Scripture Depository, with the Wangshan Pavilion at the very end. The total floor area exceeds 6,000 square meters.

The subdistrict has a total population of 15,557, covering an area of 12.7 square kilometers, with 8,455 mu of arable land and 3,441 mu of mountainous land.
