Tomb of Sun Yirang

The Tomb of Sun Yirang is a cultural relic protection unit of Ouhai District.

The Tomb of Sun Yirang is located at the southern foot of the mountain south of Cihu South Village, Wutian Town, Ouhai District, facing north. It has a semi-elliptical layout, measuring 10.44 meters in width and 12.8 meters in depth. The tomb chamber is enclosed by stone walls, 0.5 to 1 meter in height. The offering platform is paved with cobblestones and surrounded by bluestone railings. In front of the tomb stands a stele inscribed with the words: “Tomb of Sun Yirang, Confucian Scholar of the Qing Dynasty.”

Sun Yirang (1848–1908), courtesy name Zhongrong, also known as Zhouyi, was a renowned scholar and educator of the late Qing Dynasty. He authored works such as 《Zhouli Zhengyi》 (Correct Meaning of the Rites of Zhou), 《Mao Shi Zhengyi》 (Correct Meaning of the Book of Songs), 《Li Ji Jijie》 (Collected Commentaries on the Book of Rites), and 《Mozi Jiaobian》 (Collected Explanations of Mozi), and is recognized as a leading authority in classical studies, textual criticism, and philology. He served as the head of the Zhejiang Education Bureau and the director of the Zhejiang Educational Association, making significant contributions to modern education and the preservation of traditional culture in China.
