Suzhou Shushan Eco-Village

Shushan Eco-Village is situated in the Suzhou High-Tech District at the northern foot of Dayang Mountain. It borders the Tong’an Town area to the north and Hushuguan Town to the east. The Suhu-Mu Highway and Huguang Canal traverse the village, covering a total length of 3 kilometers. The village is close to National Highway 312, the Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway, the Shanghai-Nanjing Railway, and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, and is just a 5-minute drive from the Suzhou Ring Expressway. With a population of 1,822 people across 556 households, the village is divided into 15 natural groups, all nestled at the foot of the mountain. The area includes over 1,050 acres of farmland, which have been fully converted to grow high-tech “Cuiguan” pears, creating a scenic pear orchard. There are also more than 4,700 acres of mountain land, with over 2,000 acres planted with Shushan bayberries, over 800 acres with tea trees, over 300 acres with bamboo shoots, and a variety of natural trees used for food, medicine, and ornamental purposes.

The forests of Shushan Village are home to numerous ornamental and medicinal trees, as well as wild animals such as rabbits, pheasants, hedgehogs, hog badgers, and squirrels, along with bird species like egrets, thrushes, and Chinese bulbuls. Flowers such as osmanthus, coral trees, gardenias, crabapple, crape myrtle, and banana shrubs bloom competitively, while tea plantations remain lush and the forests deep and serene. The entire Shushan Village embodies the poetic charm of “mountains holding the essence of paintings and waters playing the sounds of music.”

Within the Dashishan Valley, Dashishan Mountain features peaks rising one after another in lush greenery. In ancient times, scholars divided Dashishan into eight scenic spots: Maozhu Steps, Zhaoyin Bridge, Yiwang Screen, Yuchen Stream, Qingsong Ridge, Kuanyun Pavilion, and Baishi Pavilion. It has now been developed into the Dashishan Scenic Tourism Area. Currently, Shushan Village has opened a 3-kilometer-long eco-trail made of wooden walkways for visitors. Tourists can also take sightseeing battery carts to fully enjoy the picturesque scenery of Shushan Village.
