Huqiu Wetland Park

Huqiu Wetland Park covers a planned area of 12.04 square kilometers, of which 6.43 square kilometers are in Xiangcheng District, Suzhou. In line with the goal of establishing it as the “urban green lung” in northern Suzhou, the city’s planning authorities revised the 2006 park plan to better highlight the cultural charm and distinctive features of the Jiangnan water town.

As an important part of Suzhou’s “four-corner landscape” spatial layout, construction on a new five-year phase of the wetland park began in the second half of 2012. In five years’ time, Sanjiaozui at the foot of Huqiu Mountain will become the largest wetland park in the urban area of Suzhou, adding an ecological landmark to the livable city.

Huqiu Wetland Park is just one kilometer away from the Huqiu Scenic Area and connected by Xitanghe Road. Located along the Xitanghe River, part of Suzhou’s “clear water corridor,” Xitanghe Road serves as a green corridor linking the Huqiu Scenic Area and Huqiu Wetland Park. The project includes the optimization and renovation of this road. While retaining the existing 9-meter-wide fast lane, a new slow traffic system for visitors will be built on the west side of the road, allowing residents and tourists to enjoy scenic views while traveling between the Huqiu Scenic Area and the wetland park.

The area around Sanjiaozui at the foot of Huqiu Mountain was previously known to the public as “Sanjiaozui Wetland Park.” In December last year, the wetland park was officially renamed Huqiu Wetland Park.
