Baimao Town is known as the “Hometown of Mountain Songs” across southern Jiangnan. The Baimao Mountain Songs have a long and rich history, belonging to the Wu Songs tradition. After the liberation, they were performed six times in Beijing and twice in Zhongnanhai, featured in a documentary by China Central Television that was broadcast nationwide, and won the only group grand prize at the 1995 Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai Wu Songs Competition.

The “Baimao Mountain Songs Museum,” built in November 1995, is the first folk songs museum in China. Covering an area of over 300 square meters, the museum houses an exhibition room for mountain song materials and an audiovisual room, systematically showcasing the origin, development, current status, and achievements of the Baimao Mountain Songs. It is a great destination for enthusiasts of folk literature and visitors interested in cultural tourism.
