The Square Pagoda is one of the iconic landmarks of the ancient city of Changshu. It was first built in the fourth year of the Jianyan era during the Southern Song Dynasty (1130 AD), and has a history of over 870 years. The pagoda has been repaired multiple times during the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. Originally named “Chongjiao Xingfu Temple Pagoda,” it is commonly known as the Square Pagoda due to its square base.
