Changshu Guqin Art Museum

The Changshu Guqin Art Museum covers an area of 1,400 square meters and is currently the only professional guqin museum in China funded by government finances. On November 7, 2003, Chinese guqin was inscribed on the UNESCO "Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity." As a national historical and cultural city, Changshu has a deep connection with guqin. In 2004, Changshu City was designated as the "Hometown of Guqin Art" by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture, and in the same year, it was named the "Hometown of Guqin" by the Asia-Pacific Branch of the International Folk Art Organization.

On October 25, 2005, the Changshu Municipal Bureau of Culture established the "Yushan School Guqin Art Museum" within the Zhao Yongxian Residence — a nationally key cultural relic protection site and the famous Ming Dynasty book collection building known as "Maiwang Pavilion." The museum consists of the Baixian Hall Exhibition Room, Xu Qingshan Exhibition Room, Wu Jinglue Exhibition Room, Cultural Relics Exhibition Room, Modern Exhibition Room, Guqin Making Process Exhibition Room, Audiovisual Room, Office, and Auxiliary Facilities. The guqin museum also houses a national guqin grading test site, the Changshu Guqin Training Center, and the Yushan Guqin School Art Studio. Additionally, there is a regular guqin performance series called "Pillow by the Water" set up in the Shanghu Scenic Area. The training center is equipped with 20 guqins, 20 guqin tables, 20 guqin stools, as well as related equipment for display and performance activities, making it a comprehensive venue for exhibition, research, exchange, and training.

In May 2007, the Changshu Guqin Art Museum was designated as the "Chinese Guqin Protection Base in Jiangnan" by the China National Academy of Arts · Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center of China. In the same year, it was also named one of the first intangible cultural heritage protection demonstration bases in Suzhou and a patriotic education base in Changshu.
