Tang Family Residence Garden is located at No. 43 Xiannan Street in the urban area. It was the private garden of Tang Yikui, the late Qing Dynasty’s superintendent of canal transport. Though covering only half an acre, the garden features exquisite design and delicate scenery, complete with pavilions, terraces, verandas, and waterside pavilions. A small pond sits at the center of the garden, spanned by a three-curved stone bridge, surrounded by rockeries and planted with flowers and trees. Tang Family Residence Garden

Located at No. 43 Xiannan Street in the urban area, it was the private garden of Tang Yikui, the late Qing Dynasty’s superintendent of canal transport. Though covering only half an acre, the garden features exquisite design and delicate scenery, complete with pavilions, terraces, verandas, and waterside pavilions. A small pond sits at the center of the garden, spanned by a three-curved stone bridge, surrounded by rockeries and planted with flowers and trees. Corridors line the walls, and in the northeastern corner, there is a partially built dry boat and several half-pavilions. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, it was used as the county library, and most of the original landscape was preserved. In 1989, when it was converted into offices for a municipal bureau, the original buildings were renovated and several new scenic spots were added. It was designated as a cultural heritage site protected by Changshu City in November 1982.
