The Rear Hall Building of the Qu Chenglin Residence

It is located at No. 34, Nanmen Street, in the urban area. Today, only the rear hall building remains. It is a Qing Dynasty structure, facing south with a north orientation, featuring a flush gable roof and two stories. The building spans five bays with a total width of 18.2 meters and a depth of 11.3 meters. The interior roof and upper-level structure are constructed entirely from timber, using large and relatively rare materials. The central bay on the ground floor has a stone column base carved with lotus petal patterns, symbolizing the wish for successive academic success. Qu Chenglin, styled Qishang, was a native of Changshu and became a Jinshi (imperial examination graduate) in the Bingchen year of the Qianlong reign (1736). He served as the Prefect of Jingzhou. It was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Changshu City in November 1982.
