Located on Hehua Street, He Shi, Zhitang Town, it was the former residence of Xu Zhaowei, a Hanlin academician and book collector in the late Qing Dynasty. The current building is a two-story brick-and-wood structure facing south, with a flush gable roof and post-and-lintel construction. It spans four bays with a total width of 12.5 meters, a depth of seven bays totaling 7 meters, and a ridge height of approximately 6 meters, resting on granite column bases. The house was likely built during the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty. Originally, it included a street-facing gatehouse, main hall, and rear building, making up three sections. In the 21st year of the Guangxu reign (1895), part of the building was converted into Gui Village Academy, and later served as classrooms for Gui Village Two-Level Primary School. The room on the eastern side of the central floor was used as his personal library. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the floor was remodeled into a two-story, four-bay structure. Between 1993 and 1994, it underwent complete dismantling and reconstruction to its present form. It was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Changshu City in November 1982.
