Dian Bridge

Located at Shanqiantang in Dianqiao Village, outside the west gate of the urban area. In the 22nd year of the Jiaqing reign during the Qing Dynasty (1817), local residents such as Wu Junji and Zhou Mingxiao donated funds to repair the bridge, which was renovated again in 1919. As the bridge lies to the west of the large and small Hudi lakes, it was renamed “Dian Bridge” (Lake-District Bridge), and is commonly known as “First Bridge.” The current structure is a single-arch bridge oriented from north to south, with its foundation piers built from bluestone, the bridge deck made of granite, a height of 5.6 meters, a central width of 3.2 meters, and an overall length of 34 meters. The words “Dian Bridge” are engraved on the arch keystone stones, and both sides of the bridge feature vertical pillars inscribed with the Buddhist phrase “Namo Amitabha.” The exact date of its initial construction is unknown, but based on the stone material and architectural style, it is believed to have been first built during the Ming Dynasty, with remnants of Ming-era foundations still present. It was designated as a cultural heritage site protected at the municipal level of Changshu City in November 1982.
