Meili Liu Shentang

Located at No. 109, East Street, Meili Town. According to the *Meili Town Annals*, it enshrines four deities—Liu, Ji, Zhou, and Jin—hence it is also known as the “Temple of Four Deities.” Local residents also say that Liu Shentang was built by neighbors along the street to commemorate the Southern Song Dynasty anti-Jin general Liu Qi (1098–1163). The exact date of its establishment is unknown. It was rebuilt in the early Qing Dynasty but was destroyed during the Taiping Rebellion. In the 26th year of the Guangxu reign (1889), local residents raised funds to rebuild it. It is a single-story building with a brick-and-wood structure, consisting of two courtyards and a total of 10 rooms. The main hall’s eaves feature exquisitely carved wooden lintels depicting stories from the Three Kingdoms period. The carvings are finely detailed, reflecting the level of wood carving craftsmanship in the Jiangnan region at the time. It was designated as a cultural heritage site protected by Changshu City in June 2006.
