Zhaitang Yao Hall

Zhaitang Yao Hall is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province.

Zhaitang Yao Hall is located at No. 68 Dongjie, Zhaitang Town, on the eastern end of Jixian Bridge. Built during the Chongzhen era of the Ming Dynasty, it has a history of approximately 400 years. The existing main hall faces south, features a flush gable roof and post-and-lintel construction, spans three bays totaling 9.3 meters in width and extends seven bays (11 meters) in depth. It has a front porch and a reverse-room veranda, with wooden beams in moon shape adorned with carvings. The hall’s Suzhou-style polychrome paintings and wood carvings are simple yet solemn, possessing extremely high historical, cultural, and artistic value. It was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Changshu City in June 2007.

In 2019, Zhaitang Yao Hall was included in the eighth batch of Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Relic Protection Units.

Zhaitang Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Changshu City. It was called Zhaitang Town in 1949, changed to a township in 1957, to a commune in 1958, reverted to a township in 1983, and became a town again in 1986. Located in the southeastern part of the city, it is 24 kilometers from the urban area. Covering an area of 47 square kilometers with a population of 31,000, National Highway 204 passes through the town, and the Bai Mao Pond and Yan Tie Pond converge north of the town. It administers 20 village committees: Yangqiao, Mengjing, Mafang, Xinmiao, Heshe, Sanlian, Yaozhen, Shuangqiao, Fengtang, Huangjing, Meiyuan, Bachi, Ducanqiao, Changqiao, Pailou, Ximen, Qipan, Qiandao, Zhidong, and Yuye, as well as the Dongjie, Nanjie, Beijie...
