Bai'mao Sluice

Bai'mao Sluice is a cultural heritage site protected at the municipal level in Suzhou.

Bai'mao Sluice

Located in Sanjiang Village, Dongzhang Office, Bixi New District, it was built in the 25th year of the Republic of China (1936). The structure is grand and imposing, featuring sturdy pillars and carved cloud patterns on the crossbeams, giving it the appearance of ornamental pillars when viewed from a distance. Commissioned by the Yangtze River Water Conservancy Commission at the time, the sluice stretches from north to south, is 43 meters wide, and about 30 meters high. It has five bays, with each gate being 8 meters wide. Primarily serving water conservancy and shipping needs in the Suzhou area, it also played roles in flood discharge, drainage, and irrigation. The sluice is now out of use. It was designated as a municipal-level cultural heritage site in June 2009.
