The Meili Anti-Japanese Bunker was built in 1936 by the 2nd Battalion of the 522nd Regiment, 87th Division, 5th Army of the Nationalist Government’s army under the command of Zhang Zhizhong, when they were stationed in Meili to resist Japanese invaders. At that time, there were five bunkers of varying sizes located along major transportation routes in the Meili area. Two remain today—one inside Jusha Garden and the other near Gongqian Bridge on Zhen’nang Street. The two bunkers are similar in shape and size. Made of reinforced concrete, each is 2.5 meters long, 2.2 meters wide, approximately 30 centimeters thick, and 2.5 meters high. In June 2007, both bunkers were designated as municipal-level cultural relic protection units.
