It is one of the earliest public libraries in southern Jiangsu. Two existing buildings remain, both facing south, with two floors of brick-concrete structure—typical architecture from the Republican era—covering a total area of about 890 square meters. One building is located at Shimei Square, with a “T”-shaped floor plan. It is an arcade-style building, 33.5 meters wide across seven bays in total, and 16 meters deep, featuring linked arched arcades. The other building is situated in Shutai Park, with an elongated “concave”-shaped floor plan, 29 meters wide across seven bays in total, and 7.6 meters deep, with a front porch. Both buildings feature balanced structures and graceful forms. This site was designated as a municipal cultural relics protection unit on November 17, 1982.
