The Sword Gate Cliff Carvings are located on the cliffs on both sides of Sword Gate and the rocks along the western descending stone steps. There are more than ten inscribed records, including surviving large regular script characters such as “Sword Gate,” “Remarkable Rock,” “Indeed So,” and “Mist-Shrouded Heights.” Also preserved are six lines of small regular script reading: “In the seventeenth year of the Daoguang reign during the imperial Qing, in the cyclical year of Dingyou, early summer, Qi Zhuanghuai of Wuyuan, Shang Antao of Jiashan, Jiang Yinpei of Changshu, and Chen Yian of Xincheng recorded…” as well as seven lines of small regular script from “Sun Yunhong’s Inscription.” Additionally, there are large clerical script characters “Rock of Remembrance” and “Look Up in Awe,” the imperial seal “Seal of Emperor Kangxi’s Review,” and a stone inscription in Wei stele style titled “Record of Mountain Touring” by ? Wen. These were designated as a municipal-level cultural relics protection unit on November 17, 1982.
