Wangwen Bridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Suzhou.

Wangwen Bridge

Located in Oujing Village, Zhangqiao Community, Xinzhuang Town, it was built in the seventh year of the Qianlong reign (1742). At that time, this bridge was the essential route for residents of Zhangqiao to travel to Yangjian (now Yangjian Town, Xishan District, Wuxi), the westernmost town of Changshu. The bridge is a square-shaped, single-arch stone slab bridge constructed from granite, running east-west. Its deck is paved with three stone slabs, is approximately 1.5 meters wide, about 0.2 meters thick, has a span of 4.3 meters, and is around 15 meters in total length. During high water periods, the bridge deck is about 2.5 meters above the water surface. A bluestone merit stele is embedded in the pier wall on the eastern side. The upper inscription reads “Constructed with donations from many families for the building of Wangwen Bridge,” and the lower one reads “Erected in the winter month of the renxu year of the Qianlong reign of the Great Qing.” It was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Changshu City in May 2017.
