Zhangmu Bridge

Zhangmu Bridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Suzhou.

Zhangmu Bridge

Located within the Shanghu Scenic Area and running from north to south, it was built during the Qing Dynasty and is a square-shaped, three-arched slab bridge made of granite. The current vertical clearance of the bridge is 3.5 meters. The middle section of the bridge deck consists of one stone slab and two cement slabs, while the ends remain in their original state, formed by two stone slabs with several stone blocks laid in between, and the deck is 1.7 meters wide. The bridge piers are built from multiple stone strips stacked together, with trapezoidal sides. The bridge approaches on the east and west sides are 5.2 meters wide, with a span of 20 meters and an overall length of approximately 31 meters. Each approach has 17 steps. On the east and west sides of the southern bridge approach, there are inscribed couplets: “Rolling waves flow eastward to connect with QINSHUI, by the shore of Shanghu Lake, the right path is shown to me.” It was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Changshu City in June 2009.
