Carved Hall at Xinmin Bridge

The Carved Hall at Xinmin Bridge is a Suzhou Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Carved Hall at Xinmin Bridge is located at No. 2 Renmin Li, north of Xinmin Bridge, Guangji Road, outside Changmen. It was designated as a Suzhou Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit in 1982. Originally the ancestral hall of the Shen family, its main gate faced Shantang Street. Today, only this hall remains, while the other structures of the shrine have been demolished. The hall is an early Qing Dynasty building, constructed around the Qianlong era. It features a flush-gable roof, spans three bays with a width of 12 meters and a depth of 13 meters. The interior includes a full hall of crabapple-style folding pavilions, flat-style beams and brackets, with intricately carved wooden panels depicting historical stories all around. The east and west gable walls are clad with angled fine-grained square bricks, and the column bases are carved stone drum styles.
