Tong Song Pharmacy

Baoying Tong Song Pharmacy is located at No. 54 South Street, Xuedun Community, Anyi Town, Baoying County, Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province. It was built in the spring of the 31st year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1905), taking its name from the ideals of unity and evergreen resilience, like pine and cypress. In 1965, a medicinal herb processing room was added behind the pharmacy. The existing pharmacy and processing room consist of three buildings, covering a land area of 450 square meters and a construction area of 247 square meters. The pharmacy building faces east and sits west, with two courtyards in a row, both featuring two-story structures connected by a central corridor. The front courtyard is four bays wide and seven rafters deep, with a flush gable roof covered in small tiles. The indoor beams are sturdy, and the original wooden lattice doors on the first floor have been replaced with glass doors and undergone interior renovation. The second floor retains intact carved lattice windows and doors, with exquisitely detailed wooden carvings on the beams and bracket arms outside the doors, as well as well-preserved wooden flooring indoors. The rear courtyard is also four bays wide and five rafters deep, with a flush gable roof covered in small tiles. The beams are intact, and the wooden flooring and staircase indoors are well-preserved. However, the first floor has also been renovated, and traces of a shrine can be found at the southern end of the rear wall. The medicinal herb processing room faces south and sits north, with two stories, six bays wide and seven rafters deep. The indoor beams and columns are relatively thick, and the wooden staircase and wooden flooring on the upper floor are well-preserved. Unfortunately, most of the front wall has been altered and rebuilt as a solid wall, with only some windows and doors remaining. The roof has been renovated. The architecture largely retains its original appearance, with an intact structure. It also bears witness to over a century of pharmaceutical industry development in Baoying, holding certain research and exhibition value.

Buffer Zone: Bounded by the alleyway 10 meters beyond the back wall to the north, Tong Song Lane to the south; the alleyway to the west, and South Street to the east.

Xuedun Community: Xuedun Community is located in the western part of Baoying County town. It is bordered by Ye Ting Road to the north, South City Root Road and Baoying Bridge to the south, Zhong Street to the east, and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal to the west.
