Nanjing Olympic Sports Center

The Nanjing Olympic Sports Center is one of the iconic landmarks of Nanjing, a city rich in history and culture. It served as the main venue for the 10th National Games of China in 2005, and was the largest public utility project in Jiangsu’s history to date. By 2008 — before the event took place — it had become the most extensive, fully featured, technologically advanced, and beautifully landscaped comprehensive large-scale sports complex and sports park in China.

The Nanjing Olympic Sports Center is located in the central area of Hexi New Town in Nanjing. To its southwest is the terminal station of Nanjing Metro Line 1, which was under construction at the time, while the planned Metro Line 2 runs to its east. The center covers a land area of 89.6 hectares, with a total construction area of approximately 400,000 square meters, and a total investment of about 2.1 billion yuan. It mainly includes the main stadium (including the warm-up field), gymnasium, natatorium, tennis center, press center, as well as supporting infrastructure such as transportation projects, environmental landscaping, and energy centers. The project officially broke ground on August 18, 2002, with plans to be largely completed by the end of 2004, and handed over for trial operation by May 1, 2005.
