Nanjing Jiangxinzhou

　Jiangxinzhou is located in the western part of Nanjing, a small island in the Yangtze River. To the east, across the Jiajiang River, lies the Olympic Sports Center; to the west, across the main river, is Jiangpu; to the south is the Dashaiguan Yangtze River Third Bridge; and to the north is the Xiaguan Bund. The island covers an area of 15 square kilometers, with a population of 12,000. Of its 12,000 mu of arable land, 4,300 mu are planted with grapes, 3,000 mu with leeks, 2,000 mu with small-variety vegetables, and another 2,000 mu with miscellaneous fruits such as peaches, persimmons, pears, loquats, and pomegranates. The island has a green coverage rate of 47%, truly making it a green oasis in the river and a pristine land within the urban area.

Since developing agricultural tourism in 1997, Jiangxinzhou, with strong support and assistance from higher-level governments, has formed a basic layout of “two streets and three scenic belts” through years of investment and construction. These include the Folk Culture Street, Farmhouse Cuisine Street, Rural Scenery Belt, Island-Transversing Road Scenic Belt, and Riverside Scenic Belt. Through recent years of practice, Jiangxinzhou’s agricultural tourism has provided broad prospects for increasing agricultural efficiency and boosting farmers’ incomes.

The Folk Culture Street has become a main attraction on Jiangxinzhou. Over the years, the development of agricultural tourism on Jiangxinzhou has gradually taken shape and expanded year by year on the foundation of rural scenery, farm experiences, and folk culture. In April 2004, it successfully passed the inspection of the National Tourism Administration and became one of the first national agricultural tourism demonstration sites.
