The Site Where Martyr Yun Daiying Was Martyred is located outside Shuixi Gate in Nanjing, at Jiangdongmen, in the former Kuomintang “Central Military Prison,” also known as the “Military Affairs Department Military Prison” or the “Central Army-Navy-Air Force Military Prison” (built in 1930), which was originally a place where Communists and patriotic martyrs were executed.

Yun Daiying, originally from Wujin, Jiangsu, was born in Wuchang, Hubei. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1921, and successively served as the Propaganda Minister of the Chinese Socialist Youth League and the Secretary-General of the Central Committee Propaganda Department. At the time of his arrest, he was the Secretary of the Action Committee of the Shanghai East District. He once edited the magazine Chinese Youth, participated in the Nanchang Uprising on August 1 and the Guangzhou Uprising. In 1927, he was elected as a member of the Central Committee at the Fifth National Congress of the Party. On May 6, 1930, Yun Daiying was arrested in Shanghai and later transferred to Nanjing and imprisoned here. He endured severe torture in prison but still secretly established party organizations and continued the struggle. On April 29, 1931, just before he was due to be released following efforts by the Party to secure his freedom, he was exposed due to the betrayal of Gu Shunzhang, a turncoat. He was executed in the prison yard that day at the age of 36. Handwriting left by Yun Daiying remains on the prison wall, including lines such as: “Roaming the rivers and lakes, memories of old friends arise; the living and dead among them each have their own timeless legacy. I’ve cast off ordinary worries, keeping only my unyielding spirit as a captive of Chu.” In 1981, the Nanjing Municipal People’s Government erected a memorial stele at the site of his martyrdom.

The Site Where Martyr Yun Daiying Was Martyred is located at No. 242, Chating East Street, Jianye District, Nanjing, and is accessible via buses 4, 7, 23, 37, 39, 57, and 82. It is a Nanjing Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit. It is currently not open to the public.
