Shuangjing

Shuangjing is a cultural relics protection unit of Pukou District.

Shuangjing [Ming Dynasty · District-level Cultural Relics Protection Unit, Group 6, Dongge Village, Yongning Town, Pukou District] is located in Group 6 of Dongge Village, Yongning Town, on the site of the former Dongge Post Station. This site and the Shuangjing wells were discovered in 1982. At that time, one well remained, with its well curb inscription already faded and illegible. In addition, there was a stone-paved road about 50 meters long and 1.5 meters wide, which matches the record in Jiangpu Pichi: “Dongge Post Station is thirty-five li to the north of the county seat.” Currently, the stone road no longer exists, but the well is still in use. The inner diameter of the well is 1.6 meters, and the original depth was over 20 meters, though now it is about 8 meters deep. The well is supported horizontally and vertically by large blue flagstones, and there are two well curbs above it. One is octagonal, with an inner diameter of 0.66 meters, a height of 0.47 meters, and a wall thickness of 0.15 meters; the other is circular, with an inner diameter of 0.61 meters, a height of 0.35 meters, and a wall thickness of 0.12 meters. The well platform is 5 meters long and 2.5 meters wide, and there is also a water trough on the western side of the platform. It was designated as a county-level cultural relics protection unit in 1983 and as a district-level one in 2005.
