Xiaguan-Pukou Railway Ferry Bridge is a municipal cultural relic protection unit in Nanjing.

Xiaguan-Pukou Railway Ferry Bridge [southern bank, Xiaguan District; northern bank, Zhongpu Neighborhood Committee, Taishan Subdistrict Office, Pukou District, riverside by the ferry bridge · 1933 · municipal cultural relic protection unit] In October 1930 (the 19th year of the Republic of China), the Ministry of Railways established the "Capital Railway Ferry Project Office" to tender and build a railway ferry for trains crossing the river. The British company Dorman Long won the bid to construct the movable approach bridges on both banks, while the British firm Malcolm & Co. was awarded the contract to build the train ferry and one dredger. In the 20th year, six tracks were laid from Pukou Station to the approach bridge. By the 22nd year, a four-span railway approach bridge with a total length of 187.13 meters was completed. Electric elevators were installed on the bridge piers, with an adjustable range of up to 8 meters to accommodate changes in water level. At the same time, a train ferry named “Yangtze River,” measuring 113.3 meters long and 17.86 meters wide, entered service. After 1949, five additional ferries were introduced successively: “Pukou,” “Nanjing,” “Shanghai,” “Jiangsu,” and “Jinling.” After the completion of the Yangtze River Bridge, the ferry service gradually phased out. On May 5, 1973, all six ferries were decommissioned and moved to Wuhu. The railway ferry bridge continued to be maintained as a wartime facility by the ferry management office. In 2012, the railway ferry bridges in both Xiaguan and Pukou were designated as municipal cultural relic protection units under their current name.
