The Yingpan Mountain Ancient Tomb Cluster Site is a municipal cultural relics protection unit in Nanjing.

The Yingpan Mountain Ancient Tomb Cluster Site [located on the north slope of Yingpan Mountain, Group 2, Beimen, Huangyao Village, Taishan Subdistrict, Pukou District · Neolithic Age · Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit] is arranged in an east-west orientation along the northern slope of the mountain, covering an area of over 4,000 square meters. In 1982, 265 square meters were excavated, uncovering 31 orderly arranged tombs. The tombs are aligned in an east-west direction with heads facing south, mostly single inhumations in a supine position with extended limbs, with only six being double burials. Over 600 burial objects were unearthed, including pottery, stone tools, and jade artifacts. The pottery consists of both sand-tempered red pottery and clay gray pottery, with vessel shapes such as tripod cauldrons with upturned handles, open-mouthed globular jars, basins, ewers, shallow dishes with raised-section legs, bowls, and goblet-shaped cups. Stone tools include tongue-shaped and “wind”-shaped perforated stone axes, with stone adzes being the most numerous. Jade artifacts make up half of the total burial goods, featuring rings, huang pendants, bracelets, jade pieces resembling animal figures, and other ornaments. In the mid-1990s, during Nanjing’s “Golden City Tourism Month,” a pottery male mask excavated from Yingpan Mountain was selected as the mascot and named the “Ancestor of Jinling.” Later, the city’s publicity and culture departments officially named it the “Ancestor of Nanjing” after subsequent promotional events. The site dates back to the Neolithic cultural period and was designated as a municipal-level cultural relics protection unit in 1992.

Taishan Subdistrict: Located at the northern end of the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, Taishan Subdistrict is separated from downtown Nanjing by just the river and connected by the bridge. It serves as the northern gateway of the Jiangbei area, covering an area of 45 square kilometers, with a permanent population of over 100,000 and a floating population of over 50,000. Since the establishment of the new Pukou District, Taishan Subdistrict has actively integrated into the riverfront development initiative and Nanjing’s cross-river development strategy.
