Nanjing Earthquake Science Museum

The Nanjing Earthquake Science Museum is located near Liuhui Pavilion, situated between the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum and Linggu Temple. Surrounded by lush trees and beautiful scenery, the area harmoniously blends water, mountains, and cultural landscapes.

The museum is housed within the Nanjing Seismic Station, renowned as the “First Seismic Station in China.” It houses the world’s largest and heaviest surviving seismograph—the Wiechert seismograph, which was the most advanced seismic observation instrument in the early 20th century. The museum utilizes a wealth of text, images, models, instruments, and promotional videos to provide a detailed introduction to earthquake science. Blending knowledge, interest, and entertainment, it serves as a professional venue for public earthquake science education.

The Nanjing Earthquake Science Museum has been designated by relevant departments in Jiangsu Province and Nanjing City as one of the first “Jiangsu Provincial Science Education Bases,” “Jiangsu Provincial Youth Science and Technology Education Demonstration Bases,” and “Nanjing Municipal Extracurricular Science and Technology Education Bases for Primary and Secondary School Students.” It has also been awarded titles such as “Advanced Collective in Provincial Science Popularization Work,” “Advanced Collective in Earthquake Prevention and Disaster Reduction by the Jiangsu Seismological Bureau,” “High-Quality Community Education Base,” and “Nanjing Youth Safety and Mutual Aid Education Base.”
