Located by Xuanwu Lake in Nanjing and to the west of Zhongshan Mountain, Nanjing Lovers' Garden is a Jiangnan-style natural landscape garden primarily showcasing wild medicinal plants, while also offering leisure, sightseeing, and wedding services.

Nanjing Lovers' Garden is situated in the middle section of Longpan Road, adjacent to the National Exhibition Center and the Sun Palace. It was once part of Xuanwu Lake but later turned into farmland due to siltation. In 1964, floral and arboreal gifts from North Korea were planted here, and it was thus known as the Sino-Korean Friendship Garden at the time. In 1975, the Nanjing Gardens Bureau began developing a Herbal Garden here, cultivating many precious Chinese medicinal herbs, and it was renamed the Garden Medicine Garden in 1982. It officially opened to the public on October 1 of the following year.

The Medicine Garden featured plant landscaping as its main focus, using local wild medicinal plants as key design elements. Blending aesthetic appeal with practical value, through ingenious garden design, it became a scenic garden showcasing premium flora. At that time, statues of Li Shizhen and the "Compendium of Materia Medica" were also displayed in the garden. As public interest in culture and entertainment grew, the Medicine Garden was renamed Lovers' Garden in 1993.

From Lovers' Garden, visitors can gaze eastward to the majestic Zhongshan Mountain, southward to the Medicine Buddha Pagoda of Jiming Temple and the Xuanzang Pagoda of Jiuhua, while the winding Ming city wall extends westward along Xuanwu Lake—a beautiful scene unfolds of “a vast lake reflecting pagoda shadows, with mountain hues embracing pavilions and terraces.” Sightseeing here not only enriches one’s knowledge of medicinal plants but also offers a chance to enjoy the elegant natural landscape of the garden.
