Yongmu Lodge is one of the commemorative structures in the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum Scenic Area. It is located beside the ancient site of Wanfu Temple on the top of Xiaomaofeng Mountain, which stands at an altitude of 300 meters to the northeast of the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum. Designed by architect Chen Junyu and constructed by the Xinjinqi Kang Construction Company, the building began construction in the winter of 1929 and was completed in four months.

In the spring of 1929, as the first phase of the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum construction — the tomb chamber and the memorial hall — was nearing completion, the Funeral Committee for Dr. Sun Yat-sen decided to build a mourning lodge for the family of Sun Yat-sen on the top of Xiaomaofeng Mountain, naming it “Yongmu Lodge.”

The architecture of Yongmu Lodge features an Eastern-style design, including one living room, four bedrooms, an adjacent kitchen, and four auxiliary rooms, covering a total area of over 200 square meters. It was built using reinforced concrete and stone. Outside the house, there are flower gardens and a stone wall. The scenery is serene and the structure is simple and classic. Sun Ke once kept vigil here.

During the War of Resistance against Japan, Yongmu Lodge was destroyed, leaving only a section of ruined wall and a stone lintel inscribed with the words “Yongmu Lodge,” written in relief regular script by Tan Yankai, then President of the Nationalist Government’s Executive Yuan.

On March 12, 1995, the 70th anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s passing, the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum Administration restored the building to its original appearance and officially opened it to the public. Today, Yongmu Lodge displays a photo exhibition commemorating Sun Yat-sen.

Sun Yat-sen (1866–1925), whose given name was Wen, courtesy name Zaizhi, art names Risun and Yixian, childhood name Dixiang, and alias Zhongshan Qiao, often used Zhongshan as his name. He was born into a farming family in Cuiheng Village, Xiangshan County (now Zhongshan City), Guangdong Province. In his youth, influenced by the revolutionary traditions of the people of Guangdong, he admired the revolutionary cause of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom. He was a pioneer of China's modern nationalist-democratic revolution, a great forerunner of the Chinese democratic revolution, a founder of the Republic of China and the Kuomintang, an advocate of the Three Principles of the People, and the creator of the Five-Power Constitution.
