Former Site of the Chinese Communist Party Delegation Office

The Former Site of the Chinese Communist Party Delegation Office is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province.

The Memorial Hall of the Chinese Communist Party Delegation in Meiyuan New Village is located on both sides of Meiyuan New Village Street at the eastern end of Changjiang Road in the eastern part of Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province. It consists of the former site of the CCP Delegation Office, the Exhibition Hall of Historical Materials on the Nanjing Negotiations between the KMT and the CCP, the bronze statue of Zhou Enlai, the Zhou Enlai Library, and others, and is classified as a modern historical site and revolutionary memorial building. From May 1946 to March 1947, the Chinese Communist Party Delegation, led by Zhou Enlai, conducted negotiations with the Nationalist Government here for ten months and four days.

The Memorial Hall of the Chinese Communist Party Delegation in Meiyuan New Village is a revolutionary memorial museum in China. It is situated in Meiyuan New Village at the eastern end of Changjiang Road in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. The preparatory work began in 1954, and it opened to the public internally in 1960. During the Cultural Revolution, the original site was closed. In November 1977, it reopened to the public. Buildings No. 17, No. 30, and No. 35 in Meiyuan New Village served as the offices where the CCP Delegation conducted peace negotiations with the Nationalist Government from May 1946 to March 1947. Buildings No. 30 and No. 35 were the residences of the delegation leaders—Zhou Enlai, Dong Biwu, Li Weihan, Liao Chengzhi, Deng Yingchao—and Qian Ying, head of the Organization Department of the Nanjing Bureau. Building No. 17 was the office location of the delegation.

The memorial hall houses 1,170 cultural relics, including 100 first-class relics. Among them is Mao Zedong’s work “Rectify Our Study,” which Zhou Enlai, Dong Biwu, Liao Chengzhi, Deng Yingchao, and others carried with them and read from May 1942 onwards. The book bears Zhou Enlai’s personal signature. There is also a bronze ink box engraved with “Preface to the Poems Composed at the Orchid Pavilion,” presented to Dong Biwu in 1946 by Ye Jianying, Li Kenong, and Xu Bing while they were working at the Beiping Military Mediation Headquarters. The ink box also features inscriptions of the donor and recipient.

The memorial hall primarily displays the original site as it was, along with 163 specially curated photographs and 90 cultural relics and documents introducing the Nanjing Negotiations between the KMT and the CCP. The museum has successively compiled and published books such as “Compilation of Materials on the CCP Delegation Negotiations” and “Chronology of Major Events in CCP Delegation Negotiations,” as well as the photo album “The CCP Delegation in Nanjing.”

Its protected area extends: south to Hanfu Street, north to 35 meters beyond the former site of the CCP Delegation Office, east to the east wall of Building No. 17 in Meiyuan New Village, and west to the wall of the Logistics Department of the Nanjing Military Region Air Force.
