Former Site of National Central University

The former site of National Central University is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The former sites of National Central University are scattered across present-day Nanjing, Chongqing, Chengdu, and other locations. In May 1928, Jiangsu University was renamed National Central University, comprising seven colleges: Arts, Science, Law, Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine, and Education. It boasted the most comprehensive academic disciplines and the largest scale of any university in China at the time. When the War of Resistance against Japan broke out in 1937, National Central University moved to Songlinpo in Chongqing, using facilities of Chongqing University for classes, and later established a campus in Baixi. In August 1949, when Nanjing was liberated and ceased to be the capital, the takeover committee renamed National Central University as National Nanjing University, which was subsequently renamed Nanjing University the following year—a name it retains to this day.
