Former Site of the Academia Sinica

The former site of the Academia Sinica is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The former site of the Academia Sinica, originally known as the National Academia Sinica (June 1928 – April 1949), was the highest academic research institution during the Republic of China era and reported directly to the Nationalist Government. After its establishment in June 1928, the Academia Sinica gradually set up various research institutes according to academic disciplines. By the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan in 1937, it had already established ten institutes: Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Geology, Astronomy, Meteorology, History and Linguistics, Psychology, Social Sciences, and Biology (including both botany and zoology). It now houses the Nanjing Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology.

In May 2013, the State Council (State Council Document [2013] No. 13) designated the former site of the Academia Sinica as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
