The former residence of Fu Baoshi is a cultural heritage site protected by Nanjing Municipality.

The former residences of Fu Baoshi, a renowned Chinese artist, consist of two locations in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, China. One is at No. 6 Fu Hougang, Xuanwu District, which is now a private residence with partial public access as a memorial hall (by appointment only) and is designated as a cultural heritage site protected by Nanjing Municipality. The other is on Han Kou West Road, Gulou District, currently serving as the Fu Baoshi Memorial Hall (long-term public access) and is a cultural heritage site protected by Jiangsu Province.

The former residence of Fu Baoshi is located at No. 6 Fu Hougang, Xuanwu District, Nanjing. It was originally purchased by Fu Baoshi when he was teaching at the Art Department of National Central University. He lived there until 1963, when he moved to No. 132 Han Kou Road. Built in 1948, it served as the long-term home of the master painter and his family after settling in Nanjing. Due to wartime instability at the time, the construction quality was subpar, and over the years, lack of maintenance led to serious safety hazards.

In 2004, the Fu Baoshi residence at Fu Hougang was renovated and opened to the public as a memorial hall. It now includes a two-story building, auxiliary cottages, and a courtyard, displaying Fu Baoshi’s life story, high-quality reproductions of his artworks, and some of his personal belongings. In June 2006, this residence was officially designated as the “Former Residence of Fu Baoshi,” a cultural heritage site protected by Nanjing Municipality.

Fu Baoshi (1904–1965), courtesy name Qingyuan, birth name Fu Zhongzhou, also commonly known as Changsheng or Ruilin, was born in Zhangtang Village, Beigang Township, Yushui District, Xinyu City. His parents, Fu Juhe and Madam Xu, lived in poverty and made a living by repairing umbrellas in Nanchang City.

Fu Baoshi was born in Nanchang in 1904 and attended a private school at the age of seven. In 1913, his father passed away, and life became extremely difficult. The family survived on the meager income his mother earned by repairing umbrellas during the day and doing laundry at night.
