The Nanjing Planning and Construction Exhibition Hall was established and opened to the public in 2005. It is a large-scale exhibition venue that showcases nearly 2,500 years of Nanjing’s urban development history, construction achievements, and future planning. It serves as an important site for the provincial and municipal Party committees and governments, as well as foreign affairs offices, to receive senior leaders, delegations from other provinces and cities, foreign guests, and social organizations. It is also a "city living room" and window for visitors from other regions and local residents to learn about Nanjing. It has been designated as a "Patriotic Education Base" by both Jiangsu Province and Nanjing City, as well as an educational activity base for youth. It is a venue for significant events such as coming-of-age ceremonies, and induction ceremonies into the Communist Youth League and Young Pioneers.

The Nanjing Planning and Construction Exhibition Hall is located on the west side of the main entrance to Xuanwu Lake in the renowned scenic area known as the "Urban Central Park," at the eastern end of Hunan Road, Nanjing's second commercial district. It faces Xuanwumen Metro Station to the south and borders Zhongyang Road, a major transportation artery, to the west. Its location is highly advantageous. The entire complex covers an area of 23,000 m², with a building area of 35,000 m², of which the planning and construction exhibition space accounts for 15,500 m².

The main structure of the exhibition hall is rectangular in shape, featuring a massive glass curtain wall paired with granite arched gates, organically blending modern and classic aesthetics to create a unique artistic style. It is one of the earliest projects in the province to be awarded the Luban Prize.

The central area of the first-floor lobby is the foyer, which houses a bronze sculpture in the shape of an open book. The pages display excerpts from Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s discourses on cities and a map of the Nanjing city walls during the Ming Dynasty. The central theme wall features a large embroidery artwork depicting Green Nanjing, while surrounding exhibition walls showcase murals of the “Forty-Eight Scenic Spots of Jinling.” The eastern part of the first-floor lobby includes a 600 m² exhibition hall for publicizing urban plans, where key regulatory detailed plans, construction detailed plans, key area plans, and major project blueprints are regularly displayed. The western and northern parts of the first-floor lobby consist of approximately 4,000 m² of exhibition space combined with a 3,000 m² western plaza, forming a flexible exhibition area suitable for hosting small to medium-sized premium exhibitions, trade fairs, and various public welfare events.

The second-floor lobby houses several exhibition areas, including the Urban Construction History Hall, the Urban Planning Hall, the Ten Functional Zones Exhibition Hall, the Major Ongoing Projects Exhibition Hall, the Main City Panorama Model Hall, and a Multi-functional Conference Hall. The Urban Construction History Hall highlights the historical and cultural context of Nanjing as a capital of ten dynasties over the past 2,500 years, showcasing the city’s construction history, cultural legacy of the Six Dynasties, classical architecture, Republican-era buildings, and representative historical and cultural landmarks.

The third floor is currently being prepared for the Nanjing Socioeconomic Development Achievements Exhibition. On the east side, there is a digital 3D cinema that screens the film “Years of Jinling,” which recreates the deep historical and cultural essence of Nanjing over 2,500 years, as well as the 3D film “Nanjing: A Vision of the Future,” illustrating an inspiring blueprint for tomorrow. The southern side is designated for meeting and conference reception areas.

Tuesday–Sunday: 9:00–17:00, last admission at 16:00; closed on Mondays. Main city sand table demonstration times: twice daily, at 10:30 AM and 3:30 PM.
