Lansheng Tower

Lansheng Tower is a cultural relic protection unit of Nanjing.

Lansheng Tower is located in the northeastern part of Liangzhou on Xuanwu Lake Park in Xuanwu District, Nanjing. Also known as Lakeside & Mountain View Tower, it was first built during the Six Dynasties period. Originally constructed under Emperor Xiaowu of Liu Song in the Southern Dynasties for watching naval drills, it was subsequently used by emperors of successive Southern Dynasties. By the time of the Southern Tang, it had been repurposed for lakeside and mountain sightseeing. In the first year of the Xuantong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1909), it was rebuilt by Xu Shaozhen, commander of the New Army, to serve as a gathering place for literati and poets.

Lansheng Tower is a two-story square pavilion with a floor area of 175 square meters. It features a double-eaved pyramidal roof covered with green-glazed tiles, and inside hangs a plaque inscribed by Ju Zheng. From the tower, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Xuanwu Lake and the Zhongshan Mountain.
