Huaxi Village

Known as the “No. 1 Village in China,” Huaxi Village is located east of Jiangyin City and west of Huashi Town, covering an area of 0.96 square kilometers with a population of over 1,500. It is a world-renowned small village in the Jiangnan region and a hub for rural agritourism. The village boasts over 80 famous scenic spots, with the Huaxi Golden Tower as its iconic structure—a seven-story, 17-floor tower that stands 98 meters tall.

At the entrance of the village stands a white-walled decorative screen, behind which lies a plaza. On the plaza, dozens of flagpoles flutter colorful flags with various patterns, representing the industries of Huaxi Industrial Corporation and showcasing its economic strength—with billions in output value and products exported abroad. To the west is the main road in and out of Huaxi Village, the Thousand-Meter Avenue, along with the Huaxi Twin Bridges and miniature replicas of the “Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, and Jiangyin Yangtze River Bridge,” which together resemble a giant dragon and are collectively called the “Dragon Corridor.” This corridor features commercial buildings, including shops, a theater, meeting halls, and restaurants. The grand assembly hall is lavishly decorated and often introduces Huaxi to visitors; the large dining hall can accommodate a thousand people dining simultaneously. A 10,000-meter-long corridor connects the front and rear of the village. Rural residences consist of mosaic-decorated multi-story villas. Each family owns a three-bedroom, three-story villa equipped with water, electricity, and gas, featuring a living room, bedrooms, dining room, bathroom, garage, and courtyard. Thirty percent of households own cars. The residential area is covered in green lawns and blooming flowers. Visitors can follow guides to visit local homes. The Nanyuan Hotel resembles a traditional farmhouse, with white walls, gray tiles, small bridges, green trees, and corridors running throughout, exuding a strong rural charm.

In the Farmer’s Park, there are sculpted attractions such as “The Magpie Bridge Meeting, Three Visits to the Thatched Cottage, Oath of the Peach Garden, Liu Bei Appointing Generals, and the Twelve Chinese Zodiac Animals.” Five cows surround the Magpie Bridge, and crocodiles float in the pool, symbolizing vigilance in times of peace. The Brick Kiln Cave, once a site for firing bricks in Huaxi’s past, now houses a circular meeting room inside the kiln. The murals depict scenes like “Chairman Mao Living in a Cave Dwelling” and “Xue Pinggui Returning to the Cave,” serving as a reminder for village officials in their conference room of not forgetting the past despite prosperity. The park surrounds the “Dragon Roar Pool” and features pavilions such as the “60th Birthday Pavilion, 70th Birthday Pavilion, 80th Birthday Pavilion, 90th Birthday Pavilion, and 100th Birthday Pavilion.” When a Huaxi resident turns 80, a banquet is held in the “80th Birthday Pavilion” to celebrate. Celebrations end at the “100th Birthday Pavilion,” from which visitors must return the way they came, symbolizing a return to youth.

Ticket Information:

No entrance fee to the village. There is a combined ticket for visiting attractions priced at 150 RMB, which includes the Huaxi Golden Tower, Huaxi Path, Happiness Garden, Farmer’s Park, World Park, Ecological Park, and the Huashi Chuancheng Socks Museum.

Huashi Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Jiangyin City. During the Song and Yuan dynasties, it was a local cotton market, once called Huashi. In 1949, it became Huashu Town, in 1957 Huashu Township was established, in 1958 it was changed to a commune, in 1962 it reverted to Huashu Town, in 1965 it was renamed Huashi Town, in 1984 it became a township again, and in 1985 it was re-established as a town. Located in the southeastern part of the city, it is 25 kilometers from downtown Jiangyin and 46 kilometers from downtown Wuxi. The town covers an area of 46 square kilometers with a population of 58,000. The Chenglu Highway runs east-west through the town, connecting to the Hualu Highway and Huaxi Highway, while the Qinqing River flows east-west through the central part of the town.
