The total construction length of the bridge is 5.176 kilometers, with a total investment of 3.625 billion yuan. The bridge is 3,071 meters long, the towers are 197 meters high, and the two main cables have a diameter of 0.870 meters. The bridge deck is designed according to six-lane expressway standards, with a width of 33.8 meters and a designed driving speed of 100 kilometers per hour. The navigational clearance under the bridge is 50 meters, which can accommodate 50,000-ton ships. Construction started on November 22, 1994, and the bridge was completed and opened to traffic on September 28, 1999. Jiangyin Yangtze River Highway Bridge is a key project during China’s Ninth Five-Year Plan period and serves as the “chokepoint” crossing over the Yangtze River for the Tongjiang–Sanya and Beijing–Shanghai national trunk highways within the country’s “two verticals and two horizontals” highway backbone system. The bridge is 3,071 meters long with a main span of 1,385 meters. It is a single-span steel suspension bridge that was China’s first extra-large steel box girder suspension bridge with a span exceeding 1,000 meters. At the time of its completion, it ranked first in China and fourth in the world among existing bridges.
